Issues concerning the applicability of Superfund and EPCRA to animal agriculture activities have been controversial and have drawn considerable attention. Bills in the 109th Congress gained much support (when the 109th Congress adjourned in December 2006, H.R. 4341 had 191 co-sponsors, and S. 3681 had 35 co-sponsors), but were not enacted. Continuing interest in the issue is evident from the fact that similar legislation has been introduced in the 110th Congress.
