Allergic Reactions to Snakebite Venom

Acute anaphylactic and anaphylactoid reactions have been previously reported following snake envenomations. The majority of these cases involved a minimum of at least two previous envenomations. However, ana-phylactoid reaction can occur after first time envenomation without the patient having a previous exposure. Anaphylaxis can also occur from immunogenicity across rattlesnake species. Patients with anaphylactic reactions should be warned of possible life-threatening reactions with further exposure to snake venom (54-56).
