7. Hold the ax as shown in Figure 103, and drive the wedge in place with the mallet. The mallet should be held so that the force of the blow is distributed over the whole end of the wedge. This tends to prevent the wedge from splitting.

8. .Place the ax in the vise, and with a hack saw, cut off the handle close to the ax. (See Fig. 104.)
