Sharpening And Tempering A Grub

1. Place the tool in the fire and heat it to a cherry red as directed for the pickax, being careful to so place it that the end will get a uniform heat. It must be wratched closely, as the thin edge will heat quickly and may become too hot, thus damaging the steel.

2. Place it on the anvil with the beveled side up and the end out even with the edge of the anvil, as shown in Figure 131, and hammer the edge back to remove the irregularities.
