a80ve: Clamp - it's vital that the screw and the ball-and socket fixture arc centered on the anvil.
pressure - enough to crush some wood types - so it is always a good idea to set blocks of" waste wood between the clamp heads and the workpiece. If the clamping procedure requires that you have to turn the screw more that about three-quarters in, then you cither need to use a smaller clamp, or have more packing between the shoe and the workpiece.
