Soils

Weathering and microorganisms wear down rocks to produce soils. Some thirty-eight major groups of prokaryotic organisms, particularly bacteria, and higher eukaryota, including algae, molds, fungi, minute animals and vascular plants, do the work in concert. Inoculants of these living organisms combined with moisture and organic matter should allow us to produce the equivalent of a thousand years of topsoil in a decade. The secret lies in the combining of microorganism seeding with protecting newly forming soils from erosion and wind while providing them with essential moisture. Trace minerals for the soils will be derived primarily from salt marsh by-products. Initially, in some areas, it may be necess to add missing macronutrients.
