Biofuels Goals

As was stated in the objectives section, the biofuels goals for the study are:

• For ethanol, the goal is to reach 10 billion gallons by 2010, 30 billion by 2020, and 60

billion gallons by 2030. The distribution of this goal is presented in Figure 5, and

• For biodiesel, the goal is to reach a billion gallons by 2012. This goal and further expansion of biodiesel is presented in Figure 6.

Both Figures 5 and 6 can be compared with the recently passed renewable fuels standard of 7.5 billion gallons by 2012 for ethanol and biodiesel. A portion of this must be made of cellulosic ethanol by 2013.
