An improved weather information network is a priority for drought monitoring and for developing early warning systems in Korea. Cooperation between neighboring countries for sharing weather information will be required for drought monitoring on a real-time basis.
Process-based simulation models can be used to better understand climate change and its impacts on crop production. Geographic information systems and remote sensing and spatial analysis techniques and models dealing with soil-crop-atmospheric interactions need to be further exploited to improve drought monitoring.
