Fluid Flow Rate and Mass Loading

Almost all wastewater treatment plants are designed based on the annual average daily flow rate of wastewater being processed. However, it should be noted that every plant has to take into account the actual daily flow rate, characteristics of wastewater, and the combination of flow rate and composition (called mass-loading) of the wastewater steam. In an on-site wastewater treatment facility that deals with wastewater streams from a fixed food processing operation, flow rate and mass-loading are not complicated issues in designing and managing wastewater. But for the waste-water streams from various sources subject to changes in flow rate and mass loadings, the peak conditions, whether it is peak flow rate or mass loading, need to be considered as well.
